🗞️ Stories this week

Odesza, Jelly Roll, and The Fugees headlining the inaugural Riverbeat Music Festival 🎸

Tom Lee Park will be hosting its first music festival since 2019 (!), after the newly renovated park was introduced last year. But instead of Beale Street Music Festival, it’s a brand new music festival called Riverbeat by Mempho Presents.

Along with these headliners, the festival is bringing in artists like Mt. Joy, Black Pumas, and the Band Camino. They are placing a focus on Memphis-based artists ranging across many genres and generations of music. Tell us the truth — what you think about the new festival? Do you like the lineup?

Tigers get massive 21-point comeback win against UAB 🏀

March Madness is officially here in full force. On Sunday, U of M basketball roared back to win against UAB after trailing 22 points in the first half to win 106-87. It’s only the second time since 2010 for a team to win by 15+ points after being down by 20 or more. This roller coaster of a game perfectly defined the Tigers’ season from being a top-10 team to a team on the fringe of the NCAA Tournament bubble.

📸 Commercial Appeal

This Saturday, the Tigers will have a much-anticipated rematch against FAU after their thrilling win against them nearly two weeks ago.

I-55 Bridge Closed for Two Weeks 🚧

The TDoT will be shutting down the I-55 Bridge from Sunday, March 10 at 8 PM through Sunday, March 24 at 8 PM. You’re recommended to use I-40 bridge instead.

The closure is due to construction work on the I-55 and Crump Boulevard interchange.

〽️ This Week in Memphis History

Fifty-one years ago, on March 15, 1973, Memphis State won in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against South Carolina on their way to their first Final Four and Championship game in school history.

In that game, legendary Memphis hooper Larry Finch scored 24 points and Larry Kenon finished with a monster double-double with 34 points and 20 rebounds. Here’s to one of the best seasons in U of M basketball’s history.
